The product suite enhancements will allow Eggplant to offer integrated AI-driven continuous testing and monitoring against critical business objectives. This will enable customers to ‘shift right’ in order to release apps quicker than ever, while continuing their testing in production, identifying live problems, providing predictive analytics and recommendations on bug fixes. Eggplant will be able to enhance DevOps pipelines to link business, development and operations groups, offering customers a faster product delivery, unique visibility and continuous product improvement, while ensuring a digital experience that delights consumers.

Quotes and Commentary

Dr. John Bates, CEO of Eggplant, said: “This is a key milestone in our growth strategy and we welcome the NCC Group’s Web Performance team and its customers to our organization. There has never been a greater demand for optimizing digital experiences and with the addition of new products and expertise, Eggplant can now more easily monitor, analyze and enhance the online customer experience, as well as accelerating the speed of delivery, quality and effectiveness of new digital products and services.”

Simon Austin, Technical Director at NCC Group Web Performance, said: “We’ve built a strong offering in the marketplace and are proud of the customers we have in our portfolio. Eggplant has a great reputation in the industry and the combination will offer customers a new and innovative model for continuous business assurance, allowing them to deliver the very best in digital services, products and experiences to their own customers.”

“Eggplant’s Digital Automation Intelligence has enabled us to accelerate automation and quality across our commerce platforms. Now we’re eager to see how Eggplant’s addition of user experience monitoring and analytics can provide more intelligence around how to continuously improve our business performance and Push Possible™,” said Harmit Wadhwa, Senior Director Product Development, Manhattan Associates.

Diego Lo Giudice, VP and Principal Analyst at Forrester[1] writes that “post-production customer and user metrics complete the story. Customer experience (CX) metrics give teams visibility into delivered business value and expose opportunities for further improvement. Metrics like client clicks, page or feature usage, user satisfaction, and completed transactions help developers gauge a customer’s experience, which in turn helps them deliver better solutions.”

In the same report, he notes that “Customers use applications to achieve business outcomes, and measuring these outcomes helps organizations improve CX and customer loyalty. While CX teams and other business stakeholders measure the overall customer experience, developers can leverage more tactical data such as client clicks, page or feature usage, and completed transactions to understand why an outcome is good or bad.”

Testplant Creates World’s First Fusion Test Automation Engine

With Eggplant Functional V18.0, testers can use intelligent image and text understanding, API automation, and WebDriver object automation within a single test.

Boulder, CO & London, UK — 3 January 2018 —  Testplant today announced that Eggplant Functional V18.0, part of its Digital Automation Intelligence Suite, includes the first test automation engine that allows users to use intelligent image and text understanding, API automation, and WebDriver object automation—all within a single test.

For years, testers have debated the merits of the different approaches to interacting with the user experience of an application. With Eggplant Functional, Testplant’s user-centric, intelligent automation software for any device, teams can test from the user perspective and gain valuable insight into the entire user experience providing visibility that helps testers understand and test the whole user journey.

Using WebDriver, the API used by the open-source test automation engines Selenium and Appium, test teams now have the ability to use and utilize existing user preferences or requirements, and can reuse their existing test assets. Users can also incorporate Selenium WebDriver methods into Eggplant Functional scripts, using images and web objects interchangeably.

Alongside the fusion test automation engine addition, Eggplant Functional V18.0 has a number of usability and user experience improvements, including the ability for administrators to check out Eggplant Functional licenses for users to work remotely, and an improved visual experience.

Quotes and Commentary

“With applications becoming increasingly complex, it is paramount for testing teams to be able to gain insight into the user experience and the entire user journey. For the first time, testing teams can use a fusion test automation engine that encompasses pre-existing preferences and requirements to give teams the opportunity to reuse existing test assets.”

HomeNews Connected Tyres, Smart Space, and Self-Driving Bin Lorries — Testplant Predicts 2018 As the Year of IoT-as-a-Service

Boulder, CO & London, UK — 6 December 2017 — The hottest AI platform today will be a cold fish by the end of 2018. That’s according to Testplant’s technology predictions for the year ahead.

The digital automation intelligence company has compiled a list of Smart/IoT predictions, claiming that 2018 will be the year the common car tyre will become ‘connected,’ with sensors embedded that can talk wirelessly to telemetry boxes and the cloud, acting as a source for big data analytics.

While IoT will fuel this new set of innovative services, Testplant warns that government needs to pay more attention to creating a whole new standard of IoT certification using a new AI-powered test technology in order to avoid a range of privacy and ethical dilemmas caused by physical objects merging into digital information infrastructure.

Testplant’s CTO Antony Edwards also called for standardisation and proper testing of algorithms and regulations, raising the issue of criminal negligence as AI algorithms out of our control have the potential to bring mass fatalities.

On a positive note, the predictions note the emergence of the first ‘Open Data’ communities, where AI and deep-learning drive the creation of communities where people share data repositories to help train algorithms.

In terms of the technology department, Testplant expects that software testing will move back in-house, as the productivity gains of automation and the need to have testing more aligned with user experience increase. For the IT department, HR and recruitment are set to become the most important internal departments, with the dramatic increase in demands for new skills in security, data science and in-house testing.

With regard to DevOps and security, Testplant also predicts that security testing will stop being an ad-hoc activity performed only by specialists; with every release project including some level of security testing. The company claims that 2018 is the year that the business itself will be pulled directly into DevOps, especially product owners who, under pressure to compete, will drive true change through continuous delivery.

Quotes and Commentary

2018 will be a huge year for IoT. “Tyre-as-a-service is just one example of many things we’ll see sold as a service as we’re able to track more usage through IoT. We will see more and more  things sold as-a-service, because it’s so easy to track usage through IoT. Coffee-as-a-service, tyre-as-a-service, garbage collection-as-a-service. Maybe we’ll start seeing police-as-a-service, teachers-as-a-service. Perhaps it’s the start of no one having a fixed job and everyone and everything being like an uber or AirBnB. Either way, this will mean technology is driving business and no longer the other way around.”

John Bates, CEO, Testplant

“AI is changing so quickly that AI platforms will quickly become obsolete as new technologies are discovered and quickly rolled out. So, teams need to focus on delivering short-term value applications using AI rather than building AI platforms.”

Antony Edwards, CTO, Testplant

HomeNews Testplant Adds API Test Automation to its Digital Automation Intelligence Suite
  • First to Combine API, UX, and Performance Testing
  • Enables 360-Degree Assurance of the Digital Experience

Boulder, CO & London, UK — November 9th, 2017 — Testplant today announced that API testing is now part of its Digital Automation Intelligence Suite. With this new functionality, teams can fully automate and test services at the API level for the first time. Uniquely, API testing can be combined with user experience testing and performance testing — so the entire end-to-end digital experience can be tested in a coordinated way, through a single test platform.

APIs are an essential pillar of digital transformation strategies and as the API economy continues to gather steam, the resulting global API testing market is predicted to grow 20 percent annually from $384 million in 2016 to $1.1 billion by 2022.

With microservice architectures becoming commonplace, API testing is increasingly important as organizations strive to monitor the user experience at the service level as well as through the application. The addition of API testing will further strengthen the Digital Automation Intelligence Suite to fully automate and test the digital experience, improving both the performance of software and applications, and saving valuable development time.

The new API test capabilities are included in the latest release of Testplant’s Eggplant Functional product. A key component in the Digital Automation Intelligence Suite, Eggplant Functional automates applications as a user would use them. Alongside API automation, other improvements include enhancements to the intelligent OCR engine that make it easier to find and analyze text that is difficult to read.

Quotes and Commentary

“We live in a hyper-connected, complex digital world where APIs are the glue that enable disparate platforms, apps, and software to connect and share data. For organizations looking to unlock the power of APIs to accelerate digital transformation, automated testing of the entire digital experience is now a prerequisite for success. As applications become more complex, incorporating multiple service layers, teams need to be able to automate API testing in conjunction with testing the front-end user experience. Testplant is the only test automation provider to have made this possible.” —Antony Edwards, CTO, Testplant

Testplant Survey Reveals Critical Business ‘App Gap’ between User Experience and Software Testing

– 70% of businesses feel consumer pressure to innovate quickly
– 49% admit to releasing apps before quality testing
– 40% confess to releasing apps without testing

Boulder, CO & London, UK – 10th October 2017 – Research demonstrating the acute pressure that businesses are under to deliver apps in the IoT and digital era, has just been released by digital automation intelligence specialist, Testplant.

Testplant’s ‘Application Crisis Research’, conducted amongst over 750 development team leaders in the US and UK, revealed that 68% plan to build more apps during the next 12 months. At the same time as reporting increased volumes of development, 91% of developers agree that user expectations for innovation and quality have also increased.

The ‘App Complexity Crisis’
The research confirms that organizations are not only planning to build more apps in the next year, but they will be more complex. Over the next 12-18 months, 50% say their company will develop more apps with IoT components, more than half (58%) say their company will develop more apps with AI components, and 62% say their company will increase the amount of apps deploying machine learning/deep learning components.

The ‘App Gap’
In addition, 42% believe that they are expected to design, develop and test apps in an unrealistic amount of time with over a third (36%) admitting they are not given enough time to ensure apps are properly tested before deployment. 81% believe that with more time, apps deployed by their team would have a greater impact on the business. Over half of the respondents (56%) agree that use of outdated techniques and tools is holding them back from meeting the demands of the digital world. 75% agree that with better tools, apps deployed by their team would have a greater impact on the business.

Pressure cooker
Of the survey respondents, 60% say the majority of pressure comes from within the company, whereas nearly half (49%) say pressure comes from competitors. 66% feel pressure from their company to innovate quickly and worryingly, this results in 49% putting out apps before they go through ideal testing. 45% knowingly put out apps that will perform below initial requirements.

When it comes to specific app testing, automation beyond execution was ranked as the most critical challenge by 67%, though 70% claim they are now more focused on automated testing than they were in the past.

Quotes and Commentary
“As business leaders embrace digital transformation, IT teams are under enormous pressure to provide the most amazing services and apps to consumers and avoid the digital scrap heap. Our survey reveals a clear ‘app gap’ between the user experience and the capabilities of software testing platforms resulting in 40% of apps being released without testing, and only 4% being used after a month – companies cannot continue like this and need to urgently embrace AI to solve the ‘app gap’.”
Dr John Bates, CEO of Testplant
